AfCFTA Strengthens High-Level Engagement with South Africa on Implementation Priorities

1 April, Johannesburg, South Africa — On the margins of the South Africa Investment Conference, H.E. Wamkele Mene met with Honourable Parks Tau to exchange views on the outcomes and forward-looking priorities emerging from the African Union’s Committee of Heads of State and Government on AfCFTA Implementation, as well as key decisions of the 39th AU Summit.

The establishment of this Committee places Heads of State at the centre of AfCFTA delivery, reinforcing accountability, sustaining political momentum, and ensuring that implementation remains a continental priority at the highest level.

Discussions focused on aligning South Africa’s industrial policy priorities, including diversification, decarbonisation, and digitalisation, with AfCFTA objectives and broader African Union programmes such as the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of South Africa’s leadership in advancing implementation and underscored the urgency of translating commitments into tangible trade and investment outcomes across State Parties.
