Customs and Trade Facilitation

The work of the Directorate of Customs and Trade facilitation centers on the implementation of the following Annexes to the AfCFTA Protocol on Trade in Goods and related complimentary issues:

In a Free Trade Area, such as the AfCFTA, Customs administrations have an important role to effectively contribute to the development and promotion of intra-African trade through the effective implementation of the agreed tariff offers, rules of origin, proper management of borders, the simplification and harmonization of customs laws and procedures, prevention of transshipment and ensuring customs cooperation among others. The Directorate, therefore, facilitates the enforcement of the agreed rules among State Parties.
