The AfCFTA Guided Trade Initiative (GTI)

The AfCFTA Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), launched on October 7, 2022, represents a strategic approach to initiate commercially significant trade under the AfCFTA preferences. The GTI demonstrates the efficiency of the AfCFTA’s legal framework, test private sector readiness and enables the AfCFTA Secretariat and State Parties to gather feedback on national legal and institutional systems, , and identify interventions to boost intra-African trade.

Road to GTI 2: Map of National Engagements

The GTI 2 focuses on stakeholder engagements, capacity-building workshops, and national committee meetings to realize the benefits of AfCFTA trade. Products identified for trade include a wide range of goods from meat and textiles to chemical fertilizers and plastic products.

AfCFTA Trading Companies

AfCFTA Trading Companies act as trade aggregators to stimulate and facilitate intra-African trade both in volume and in diversity of products. Launched at the IATF,  they will be key to deepening productivity, competitiveness, and trading within the Continent.

AfCFTA Association of Commodity Exchange

At the IATF 2023, 15 African Commodity Exchanges signed an MOU to initate the AfCFTA Association of Commodity Exchanges to share information and collaborate.
