Victoria, Seychelles, 4 March 2026 – H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), visited the Seychelles Fisheries Authority in Victoria, where he held technical discussions with officials on opportunities under the AfCFTA for the fisheries and blue economy sectors.
The discussions highlighted fisheries as a strategic export sector for Seychelles and explored pathways to expand intra-African trade in fish and seafood products. Participants also examined opportunities to develop regional value chains in fish processing and marine products, enabling Seychelles to leverage the AfCFTA to increase market access across African markets.
The engagement emphasised the importance of strengthening the broader fisheries ecosystem, including logistics, port services, cold-chain infrastructure, and fish processing industries, to support the growth of Seychelles’ seafood exports across the continent.
The Secretary-General also highlighted the role of pan-African institutions, including African Export-Import Bank, in supporting project development, financing, and investment to unlock the full potential of Africa’s fisheries and blue economy value chains.
