Maputo, Mozambique, 26 February 2026 – On the margins of the African Group Ministerial Meeting on World Trade Organization (WTO) issues, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), met with Hon. Rui Miguêns de Oliveira, Minister of Industry and Trade of Angola.
Discussions focused on accelerating the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement and identifying practical steps required to unlock its full benefits. Key priorities highlighted included strengthening trade-related infrastructure, enabling the free movement of businesspersons, mobilising African capital, improving access to affordable finance, and enhancing rail, road, and air transport and logistics across the continent.
The Government of Angola reaffirmed its strong commitment to advancing AfCFTA implementation at the national level.
The Secretary-General also conveyed appreciation to H.E. the President and the Government of Angola for their decisive leadership during Angola’s Chairmanship of the African Union in 2025.
