AfCFTA Secretary-General Visits Central African Republic to Advance Implementation

Bangui, Central African Republic, 25 February 2026 – As part of his official visit to the Central African Republic, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), met with H.E. Félix Moloua, Prime Minister of the Central African Republic, to discuss progress on AfCFTA implementation.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General highlighted the current state of implementation of the AfCFTA, noting that 50 State Parties had ratified the Agreement and 26 countries had gazetted their tariff offers. He underscored that the Central African Republic’s next critical step remained the gazetting of its tariff offers to enable full participation in the AfCFTA market.

Discussions also focused on the Central African Republic’s comparative advantages, its economic diversification priorities, and opportunities for industrial development through key instruments such as the AfCFTA Adjustment Fund.

The visit formed part of H.E. Mene’s continued engagement with Member States and included meetings with government officials, private sector representatives, as well as women and youth, aimed at strengthening national participation in the AfCFTA and advancing inclusive trade on the continent.
