AfCFTA Secretariat Engages EU Delegations on Implementation and Cooperation

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 13 February 2026 – The African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat convened a consultative meeting with EU Delegations and Ambassadors of EU Member States to provide an update on AfCFTA implementation and to explore EU–Africa cooperation, particularly on multilateralism, trade, investment, and future collaboration formats.

During the engagement, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, highlighted the AfCFTA’s progress, noting that negotiations were concluded in under six years, with 50 countries having ratified the Agreement and 25 already implementing it domestically. In the context of a challenging global trade environment, he reaffirmed Africa’s commitment to multilateralism as a foundation for predictability, certainty, and open markets.

The European Union and its Member States reiterated their support for Africa’s economic integration journey through the AfCFTA.
