Marrakech, Morocco, 12 December 2025 – On the margins of the AfCFTA Business Forum in Marrakech, H.E. Wamkele Mene met with Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Kingdom of Morocco.

Discussions focused on progress in finalising the Rules of Origin for the textile and automotive sectors, two sectors of strategic importance to Africa’s industrialisation and intra-African trade agenda. On the automotive sector, the Secretary-General highlighted ongoing engagements with original equipment manufacturers aimed at supporting targeted investments as the AfCFTA transitions from negotiation to implementation.

The meeting also addressed ongoing work towards the establishment of the Continental Intellectual Property Rights Office, underscoring its role in supporting innovation, legal certainty, and value addition across African economies.
