AfCFTA Secretary-General Calls for Digital Solutions to Facilitate Movement of Business Persons

Accra, Ghana, 6 November 2025. H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, participated in the 2025 Deloitte Africa Annual Tax Conference held in Accra.

In his remarks, H.E. Mene called for the development of a digital system to enable the temporary movement of business persons across the continent, noting that such innovation is essential to the full implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement. He further emphasised that tariffs should serve as instruments to drive industrial growth rather than solely as sources of revenue and encouraged customs administrations to adopt facilitative approaches that promote trade.

H.E. Mene also urged the private sector to view the AfCFTA as a pathway to Africa’s economic self-sufficiency and to actively participate in building a unified continental market.
