AfCFTA Secretary-General Engages Chad on Advancing AfCFTA Implementation


N’Djamena, Chad, 10 February – During an official visit to the Republic of Chad, H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, met with Hon. Guibolo Fanga Mathieu, Minister of Trade and Industry, and chairpersons of Chad’s private sector umbrella bodies. The discussions focused on the progress of AfCFTA implementation and fostering greater participation of the Chadian private sector in the AfCFTA preferential market.

H.E. Mene highlighted the importance of domesticating Chad’s Schedule of Tariff Concessions to facilitate trading under the AfCFTA regime. He also underscored the need for a targeted programme to strengthen private sector capacity, ensuring that businesses in Chad are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Agreement.

The visit reaffirmed the AfCFTA Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with the Government of Chad and private sector stakeholders to accelerate trade integration and economic development within the AfCFTA framework.
