Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga Pays Courtesy Call on H.E. Wamkele Mene at AfCFTA Secretariat

Accra, Ghana, 22 November – Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, Former Prime Minister of Kenya and candidate for Chairperson of the African Union Commission, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

H.E. Mene briefed Rt. Hon. Odinga on the progress of the AfCFTA, highlighting that 48 State Parties have ratified the Agreement and that trading under its framework is underway. He emphasised the AfCFTA’s role in driving economic integration and fostering sustainable growth across the continent.

Rt. Hon. Odinga shared his vision for the African Union Commission, prioritising infrastructure development, connectivity, financing mechanisms, and collaboration with Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to boost intra-African trade. He stressed the need to address trade barriers to fully realise the benefits of Africa’s integration.

This engagement reflects a shared commitment to leveraging the AfCFTA to achieve a more integrated and prosperous Africa.
