AfCFTA Secretariat Advances SPS Coordination to Address Non-Tariff Measures and Facilitate Trade

Nairobi, Kenya, 16 March 2026 – The AfCFTA Secretariat convened experts and representatives from Member States in Nairobi for a Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Sub-Committee workshop under the Trade in Goods Protocol to advance discussions on SPS measures as a key category of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs).

The workshop supported collaboration and knowledge sharing on SPS requirements that safeguard human, animal, and plant health while facilitating smoother intra-African trade.

Through such engagements, the AfCFTA Secretariat continues to work with Member States to address NTMs and promote safe, predictable, and increased trade in agricultural and food products across the continent.
