AfCFTA Secretary-General Highlights Digital Tools to Advance Africa’s Sovereignty and Resilience

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 14 February 2026 – H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, took part in a fireside chat during the Accra Reset – Addis Reckoning high-level event, where he underscored that the AfCFTA Secretariat is working towards achieving Africa’s vision for sovereignty, resilience, and inclusive growth.

The Accra Reset is an initiative led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, and seeks to reimagine global governance for health and development in the post-SDG era, with a strong focus on African sovereignty in health technologies, digital systems, and financing.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General highlighted practical AfCFTA tools that advance this vision, including the AfCFTA Trade Hub, digital payment systems, and the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade. “African leaders set the vision, and it is our job to design the tools to achieve that vision,” he stated, emphasising the need to build an interoperable and fully integrated African digital economy.
