Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania, 22 July 2025 – The AfCFTA Secretariat, in partnership with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat, is convening a three-day regional workshop on Women and Youth Economic Empowerment in Fisheries through the Inclusive Market Access Programme. The initiative is anchored in the implementation of the AfCFTA Protocol on Women and Youth in Trade and the AfCFTA Private Sector Strategy.
The workshop provides a platform to update stakeholders on the development of continental standards in fish trade, promote regional integration, and support the harmonisation of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures within the fisheries value chain. It also addresses key challenges and explores opportunities to strengthen intra-African trade.
Delegates are receiving training on access to quality and affordable feed, best aquaculture practices, and financial inclusion. The workshop also aims to build capacity for active participation in aquaculture, feed production, and fish trade at both regional and continental levels.
Recommendations emerging from the workshop will inform the implementation of targeted interventions under the Inclusive Market Access Programme, designed to remove existing barriers, enhance export readiness, and amplify participation in Africa’s fisheries trade.
