Luanda, Angola, 23 June 2025 – The AfCFTA Secretary-General, H.E. Wamkele Mene, delivered special remarks at the 17th U.S.–Africa Business Summit, hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa.

In his statement, the Secretary-General underscored the importance of predictable and constructive U.S.–Africa trade relations, noting that continuity in programmes such as the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is essential to maintaining momentum in Africa’s regional integration efforts under the AfCFTA.

He emphasised Africa’s strategic shift towards industrialisation and regional value chain development, driven by the AfCFTA and supported by a growing consumer base and youthful population. Highlighting sectors such as agribusiness, digital infrastructure, healthcare, critical minerals, and green energy, he called for deeper collaboration aligned with Africa’s transformation agenda.

The Secretary-General also pointed to the critical role of inclusive economic development, calling for stronger investment in skills, digital infrastructure, and financing mechanisms to empower women and youth. He reiterated that Africa’s economic future must centre on production, industrial growth, and value addition, supported by strategic partnerships.

H.E. Mene concluded by affirming that the AfCFTA provides the strategic framework for a new era of U.S.–Africa economic engagement, one built on mutual respect, shared priorities, and long-term prosperity.
