AfCFTA Secretary- General Applauds Launch of African Medical Centre of Excellence

Abuja, Nigeria, 5 June 2025-The Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, H.E. Wamkele Mene, witnessed the inauguration of the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), a landmark initiative led by Afreximbank in collaboration with King’s College London, the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and other strategic partners.

H.E. Mene commended the establishment of AMCE as a bold and visionary step toward strengthening Africa’s healthcare systems. He emphasised that the initiative reflects the transformative potential of the AfCFTA, demonstrating how economic integration can also drive social development. Healthcare remains central to the well-being and prosperity of the continent.

He reaffirmed that all AfCFTA instruments are available to support the rollout of AMCE across Africa and encouraged continued collaboration between key stakeholders to advance this important work.

H.E. Mene extended his congratulations to Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, for his visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to initiatives that support Africa’s self-reliance and inclusive growth.
