Cape Town, South Africa, 17 May 2025 – The AfCFTA Secretariat has successfully concluded the 10th Meeting of the Committee on Competition Policy, held in Cape Town ahead of the inaugural Heads of Competition Authorities Meeting. The gathering brought together representatives from AfCFTA State Parties and technical experts to advance implementation of the Protocol on Competition Policy.
Discussions focused on the institutionalisation of the AfCFTA Competition Authority and Tribunal, including the development of governance structures, procedural frameworks and modalities for inter-State cooperation. The Committee also explored strategies for strengthening capacity and promoting awareness of competition policy across the continent.
The outcomes of this 10th meeting will inform the next phase of engagement with Heads of Competition Authorities and guide the establishment of a continental competition framework under the AfCFTA.
The successful conclusion of this meeting demonstrates the Secretariat’s ongoing commitment to fostering a rules-based, fair and competitive African market that supports enterprise growth, safeguards consumer welfare and enhances regional economic integration.
