Casablanca, Morocco, 5 November 2024 – H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, attended the inaugural AfCFTA-Morocco Business Forum in Casablanca, organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry in collaboration with the Confederation of Moroccan Exporters. Themed “Intra-African Trade, Perspectives and Opportunities,” the event brought together key figures from across the continent to explore the future of African trade and collaboration.
During his address, H.E. Mene highlighted the progress and tools established to operationalise the AfCFTA, underscoring Morocco’s pivotal role in advancing intra-African trade. He praised Morocco’s proactive ratification of the AfCFTA agreement, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to fostering economic unity within Africa. H.E. Mene commended Morocco’s diversified economy, particularly its strengths in sectors such as agriculture, automotive, and renewable energy, noting that Morocco’s expertise in sustainable energy positions it as a model for other African nations aiming to harness green technologies within the AfCFTA framework.
Calling on Morocco’s private sector to fully engage with the AfCFTA, H.E. Mene stressed the immense growth potential it represents. He emphasised that by actively participating, businesses can leverage the AfCFTA as a driver for economic prosperity and contribute towards Africa’s integrated future. By integrating these sectors into the larger African market, Morocco not only enhances its competitive edge but also supports the continent’s collective push towards industrialisation, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability. This collaboration, he asserted, is vital for unlocking Africa’s full economic potential and advancing shared goals of prosperity and unity.
