2023 Lagos International Trade Fair Aims To Boost African Business, Intra-African Trade Under AfCFTA

In a concerted effort to enhance trading activities both within Nigeria and across the African continent, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has announced plans to prioritize fostering intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) at this yearā€™s Lagos International Trade Fair.

Leye Kupoluyi, Chairman of the Trade Promotion Board at LCCI, shared this significant development during a press conference convened to unveil the 2023 Lagos International Trade Fair.

The event, scheduled to run from November 3rd to November 12th, 2023, at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos, holds the theme ā€œConnecting Businesses, Creating Value.ā€

The inauguration of the fair will be a momentous occasion, with President Bola Tinubu set to officiate, emphasizing its importance to the Nigerian and African business landscape.

Now in its 37th edition, the annual fair will witness the simultaneous hosting of various specialized fairs throughout its ten-day duration.

A standout feature for business owners to anticipate is the ā€˜Africa Hall Project,ā€™ an initiative that unites entrepreneurs from across the African continent under one roof.

This project, which began six years ago, aims to bolster intra-African trade under the AfCFTA.

Kupoluyi revealed that representatives from almost all 54 African countries have been invited to participate, and discussions with interested exhibitors from various African nations are already in advanced stages.

In addition to fostering trade, this yearā€™s event acknowledges the invaluable contribution of the creative and entertainment industry to the Nigerian economy.

An entertainment village will be established to celebrate this vibrant sector.

Furthermore, the 2023 Lagos International Trade Fair will feature a tech hub known as the ā€˜LITF Tech Hub.ā€™

This pavilion will serve as a platform for techpreneurs specializing in telecommunications, software, and information and communication technology (ICT) to showcase their innovative products and services.

Tech enthusiasts will have a dedicated space to explore cutting-edge technological advancements, effectively expanding upon the legacy of the ICTEL Expo and Conference held annually in July.

With a focus on connecting businesses, creating value, and advancing intra-African trade, the 2023 Lagos International Trade Fair promises to be a pivotal event on the continentā€™s economic calendar, uniting entrepreneurs and innovators from far and wide.
