Djibouti City, Djibouti, 22 July 2025 – The 7th and 8th Meetings of the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) are being held from 22 July to 2 August 2025 in Djibouti City.
Delegates are engaging in negotiations on the draft Annexes to the Protocol on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) under the AfCFTA. These Annexes aim to establish the legal and institutional framework for transitioning from fragmented IP regimes to a harmonised, continent-wide system that is globally respected and distinctly African.
Within the AfCFTA framework, these negotiations go beyond legal drafting. They mark a decisive move towards shaping a future in which African ideas are African-owned, African-valued, and African-traded.
