AfCFTA Secretariat Successfully Hosts Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Workshop for Mozambique National AfCFTA Implementation Committee
Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique, 20 March 2025: The AfCFTA Secretariat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Mozambique and ODI Global, successfully convened a Technical Assistance and Capacity Building (TACB) Workshop for the Mozambique National AfCFTA Implementation Committee (NIC) from 18 to 20 March 2025 in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique.
The three-day workshop focused on strengthening the technical capacity of the NIC to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the AfCFTA Agreement at the national level. The sessions covered key areas including trade in goods, trade in services, rules of origin, non-tariff barriers, customs cooperation, and the AfCFTA strategies for industrialisation and private sector engagement.

The workshop brought together representatives from key ministries and agencies of the Government of Mozambique who form the core of the NIC. Participants engaged in practical sessions, exchanged views on the country’s readiness to participate in AfCFTA trading, and reviewed national structures and strategies in line with the AfCFTA framework.
The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Mozambique in its efforts to effectively implement the AfCFTA, including through follow-up missions and targeted support to enhance institutional coordination and trade readiness.
The workshop was organised under the AfCFTA Secretariat’s ongoing Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Programme, which is aimed at supporting State Parties in the establishment and operationalisation of their National AfCFTA Implementation Committees. ODI Global has also expressed its openness to facilitating further engagements with the NIC, working alongside the AfCFTA Secretariat to enhance the effectiveness of the committee’s operations.
